Director

As Director of Urban WorkSpace, Karl is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy and growth of the business. He oversees all operational, financial and commercial aspects of the company—ensuring every site runs smoothly and continues to deliver high-quality, affordable office solutions across Birmingham.

Urban WorkSpace began as a small family-run venture with a single unit and a shared vision: to create accessible, flexible workspaces where local businesses could thrive. Under Karl’s direction, that vision has developed into a successful and expanding portfolio of business centres, each offering unique character, practical functionality and a strong sense of community.

What sets Karl apart is his hands-on leadership and genuine passion for supporting local enterprise. He takes great pride in building strong relationships with tenants, maintaining high standards across every location and upholding the values and legacy established by his father. From strategic decision-making to checking in with long-standing clients, Karl is actively involved in all areas of the business.

He is particularly proud of Urban WorkSpace’s distinctive properties—each one telling a different story, from the heritage of the Jewellery Quarter to the tranquillity of Cuckoo Wharf. For Karl, it’s about more than just buildings—it’s about creating spaces where people feel supported, inspired and ready to succeed.

Outside of work, Karl enjoys spending time with his family, staying active at the gym, following sport and taking long walks with the dogs.

Sharon Murphy

Operations Manager

Sharon has been part of the property industry since 2008 and brings a wealth of hands-on experience and practical know-how to her role as Operations Manager at Urban WorkSpace. Known for wearing many hats, Sharon supports all of our sites on a daily basis—from tenant care and troubleshooting to managing spreadsheets (and occasionally picking up a paintbrush when needed!).

No two days are ever the same and that’s exactly what she loves most about her role. Whether it’s resolving a maintenance issue, catching up with tenants, or exploring new opportunities to improve the business, Sharon thrives on the variety and energy of her work. Her down-to-earth approach and strong sense of community make her a firm favourite across our locations.

Clients can always count on Sharon to be fair, firm and always ready to help. As she likes to say

“I’m not bossy—I just have better ideas!”

Reliable and approachable, Sharon is the glue that helps keep the day-to-day running smoothly.

Every Urban WorkSpace location holds a special place for Sharon—each one with its own character, loyal tenants and even her own touches, from décor to long-standing relationships.

When she does manage to grab five minutes away from work, you’ll find Sharon unwinding with a well-earned gin and lemonade.

George Pountney - Urban WorkSpace, Office Solutions in Birmingham

George Pountney

Facilities Manager

George plays a key role in the day-to-day operations at Urban WorkSpace, combining practical facilities management with oversight across maintenance, accounts and ongoing construction projects. His hands-on approach ensures each of our centres runs smoothly, efficiently and to the high standards our tenants expect.

With over a decade of experience in the property industry, George began his career at just 18 as an apprentice Cost Manager with Gleeds. Over the years, he worked on a wide range of projects across the industrial, retail and residential sectors, achieving RICS chartered status as a Quantity Surveyor in 2023. Although successful in cost management, George felt a strong pull toward the family business—something he’d spoken about with his dad since childhood. In 2024, he made the leap and joined Urban WorkSpace full-time, determined to work his way up and make a meaningful impact.

What George values most is the positive team environment, the strong relationships with tenants and the pride taken in each property. He sees every building as a blend of functionality and design, crafted to help businesses grow and thrive in comfortable, inspiring surroundings.

Dependable, proactive and committed, George is someone both clients and colleagues can count on. He’s always ready to step in, find solutions and offer support—whether it’s resolving a maintenance issue or helping a new tenant settle in.
